Translation quality and personality traits in the humanities genre

Regarding the interdisciplinary aspect of Translation Studies (TS), Munday (2012) puts forward two fields of study in TS, including cognitive science and psychology. This study conducted an empirical investigation on how a translator's personality influences the quality of translations in the humanities genre. The study mainly aimed to determine whether there is a correlation between the quality of translations of English texts to Persian in the humanities genre and the personality traits of translators. To accomplish this, the researchers used a psychometric tool called the HEXACO model (2007). The samples for the study consisted of one hundred undergraduate students who were studying translation in universities situated in Iran. These participants filled out a reliable and validated questionnaire based on the HEXACO model. Furthermore, they were asked to translate four different types of text - psychology, linguistics, sport, and art. The House model was employed to assess the quality of the translations, and also the collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 26. According to the results, there was a relationship between personality traits and translation quality in the Humanities genres specifically in the linguistics genre.
