Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive structural evaluation of reinforced concrete (RC) compression members (columns) to determine their axial load carrying capacity, compressive strength, and buckling behavior under revised building height requirements in accordance with Unified Development Control and PromotionRegulations (UDCPR).The analytical investigation is carried out using STAAD.Pro to simulate realistic loading conditions, including dead load, live load, and relevant load combinations as per Indian Standards.Four conventional RC column models are analyzed to establish baseline structural performance in terms of axial capacity, lateral displacement, and critical buckling load.To assess the effectiveness of retrofitting, carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) wrapping is considered as a strengthening technique.Due to the limitations of linear analysis in STAAD for simulating confinement effects, the enhanced compressive strength of CFRP-confined concrete is evaluated using established analytical models from literature.These modified material properties are then incorporated into the analytical framework to estimate the improved load carrying capacity of retrofitted columns.
