Abstract

Without a doubt, Charles Catania's academic life serves as an exemplary model for any young behavioral analyst. His interest in understanding human behavior was shaped by the best teachers and the fervor for research in that early era, when everything was just beginning in the analysis of behavior, and there was much work to be done. His activities have encompassed a wide range of areas, including teaching, laboratory research with animals and humans, publishing, journal editing, project leadership, and administrative responsibilities. All his contributions have led Catania to be considered one of the pillars of behavior analysis. We will focus on his contributions to the study of instructional control and its importance in the analysis of verbal behavior.
