Abstract
This article provides a literature review of studies on the functionalization of α-olefin oligomers and co-oligomers. The role of α-olefin oligomers is to ensure that the functional polymer additive is soluble in oil. Therefore, the chemical nature of α-olefin oligomers does not significantly influence chemical modification. The main role here is related to the molecular weight of the oligomer: this value must be chosen so that the polymer obtained without functionalization is soluble in oil. The optimal molecular weight was determined to be between 800 and 2000. C2-C6 α-olefin oligomers are used as starting raw materials. It was found that it is possible to synthesize compounds with the required properties by approaching the issue of obtaining multifunctional polymer additives based on specific needs; in other words, their production level and specific applications play important roles in using oligomers as raw materials.
