Graham Pollard on Oxford Loan Chests: Lyell Lecture IV (delivered 19 January 1961)

Graham Pollard spent his research career collecting evidence of the medieval book-trade in Oxford. While he never managed to reduce to publishable form his elaborate notes on local bookmen, most of his general studies, largely material from his Lyell Lectures, did see print. This essay reproduces the exception, an important and intensely detailed presentation of the loan-chest system in Oxford.
