Abstract
The article aims to reconstruct the history of international communication among Ukrainian scientists by presenting information on their participation in the activities of foreign scientific societies. The chronological framework of the study covers the years 1921–1938. The period was chosen as it witnessed the formation of a new sociopolitical system, the evolving attitude of the authorities towards the scientific community, as well as a new framework for organizing scientific research. The Soviet legislation regulating science and research activity was introduced and the position of a scientist in the society changed fundamentally. The historiographical study of literary sources conducted by the authors showed that specialists of various disciplines, who worked in Ukraine during the specified period, maintained creative connections with foreign scientific societies. The present investigation is based on archival documents, many of which are introduced to the academic community for the first time, thus allowing a more realistic picture of the scientific cooperation of Ukrainian researchers with their foreign colleagues.
