Abstract

Avulsion injuries involve some of the most complex challenges in dental practice. While established guidelines, such as those issued by the International Association of Dental Traumatology, provide a framework for management, their translation into routine clinical practice can be difficult. This article presents practical, stepwise guidance for general dental practitioners, incorporating clinical insights, illustrative photographs and actionable recommendations to support effective decision-making in acute trauma scenarios. Key areas addressed include assessment of primary versus permanent teeth, selection of storage media, management of medically complex patients and coordination with specialist services. By integrating evidence-based protocols with real-world experience, this article equips practitioners and supports effective care, with the aim of improving patient outcomes in the management of avulsion injuries. Management of avulsion injuries is essential knowledge for the team in general dental practice.
