It is in the field of post-metaphysical thinking in particular, which centres on the concepts of difference and contingency, that the dividing line of Jüngels theological thinking can be outlined. This runs precisely between the ascending curves of identity and the declines of difference thinking. For Jüngels theological approach, which considers God as God from the event of Gods identification with the crucified, compels us to think about the classical constellation of identity and difference, the absolute and contingency, the infinite and the finite in such a way that they are neither fused into a closed identity nor fall apart into the opposition of absolute difference. This systematic fact can be demonstrated using the concept of difference. This is to be understood in such a way that actual negativity is integrated into Gods being itself, without at the same time allowing either a symmetrical relation or an infinite lack of relation, an immediate, closed identity or a repulsive difference at any point. God conceived in this way in difference corresponds to itself insofar as it infinitely allows finitude from itself by differing infinitely from it.
