Abstract

Large-scale contourite deposits have been identified as a result of the interaction of the Levantine Intermediate Waters (LIW) with the Alicante Highs. The different seafloor highs and their associated morphologies have been characterized based on bathymetric data, and a preliminary analysis of the contourites has been performed using Sparker singled seismic profiles. These deposits will provide relevant information on paleo-climatic and paleo-oceanographic fluctuations in the Western Mediterranean Basin.
