[Retrospective analysis of epidemiology, clinical characteristics and management of 300 Scabies cases].

INTRODUCTION: Scabies is a common, highly infectious skin condition that is becoming increasingly prevalent in our society, as well as in communal settings. The aim of this retrospective data analysis was to investigate the epidemiology, clinical presentation and treatment outcomes of scabies cases at the Triemli City Hospital in Zurich. A total of 300 cases of scabies were analysed over the period from 1 February 2023 to 21 September 2023. Purely topical treatment showed a significantly higher rate of treatment failure than combination therapy with permethrin cream and ivermectin tablets (RR = 3.52; 95%-CI = 1.94-6.33; p 0.001). The results support the use of systemic components to reduce treatment failure. Patients with contact to a mass-accommodation facility did not have a significantly increased risk of treatment failure compared with those without contact to such a facility (RR = 0.82; 95%-CI = 0.60-1.11; p > 0.05).
