Abstract

Dear Reader, This editorial is coming out later than we intended. This is partly due to still being in transition, navigating the changes we implemented in the Journal of Music Therapy (JMT) in 2025. These are all positive changes intended to improve transparency, accessibility, and the user experience. We shifted to a continuous publication model, which is designed to shorten the length of time from acceptance to publication, a benefit to authors and readers. We implemented a format-free submission policy, which simplifies the submission process for authors, allowing them to focus more on submitting quality content and less on adhering to specific style guidelines (at least until later in the peer-review process). You will also notice that authors are including key points below article abstracts. These provide readers with the authors’ perspective on the main points articulated in the published manuscript. And we have more changes yet in store—a transition in journal leadership. This year marks Dr. Blythe LaGasse’s eighth and, according to the American Music Therapy Association bylaws, final year as Editor of the Journal of Music Therapy. She has been a dedicated steward of the journal, stepping into the Lead Editor role in 2019 and then shifting to a Co-editor role in 2023 when Dr. Kimberly Sena Moore accepted a journal leadership position.
