Abstract

The text attempts, in a new way, to interpret the transition from Aristotelian syllogistic logic to Frege’s mathematical logic and thus builds on my previous analyses of Aristotle’s logic. Provided that the proposed interpretation shows itself to be adequate, it can help further develop formal epistemology that I presented in one of my previous contributions (Kvasz, L., Formalna epistemológia – budúca syntéza. Filosofický časopis, 64, 2016, No. 6, pp. 951–963). Formal epistemology attempts to emulate, in epistemology, Frege’s reform of logic. A new understanding of the transition from Aristotle’s to Frege’s logic will allow us to divide the formalizing epistemology into several tasks, namely the introduction of relational, compositional and deductive syntheses into the language of epistemology, i.e. tasks that correspond to the steps that Frege undertook in building his logic.
