Plain language summaryWhat is this summary about?Generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG) is a long-term autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the nerve-muscle junction causing muscle weakness. This summary describes results from Vivacity-MG3, a 24-week Phase-3 randomized controlled trial, that investigated whether nipocalimab is safe and improves symptoms in patients with gMG who did not get sufficient symptom relief with standard-of-care treatments. Participants could have autoantibodies for acetylcholine receptor [AChR], muscle-specific tyrosine kinase receptor-related protein [MuSK], or low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein-4 [LRP4].What were the results?The study included 196 patients, who were receiving standard-of-care treatments for gMG. In addition to standard-of-care treatments, 98 patients received nipocalimab, while the remaining 98 received placebo. Over 24-weeks, nipocalimab-treated patients showed greater improvements in gMG symptoms compared to placebo.
