Abstract
This paper presents an overview of diagnostic procedures for preclinical myxomatous mitral valve disease in the dog which do not require the use of an ultrasound machine. Included techniques pertain to physical examination, electrocardiography, radiography and blood analysis with an emphasis on availability for the general practitioner, ease of performance, correlation with advanced echocardiographic methods and new findings for different breeds and the species as a whole.
