要旨

ABSTRACT While serving as Cultural Counsellor at the Portuguese Embassy in London, Graça Almeida Rodrigues became friends with Paula Rego (1935–2022), a world-renowned artist of Portuguese origin based in London. Paula Rego started Jungian analysis in the 1970s; this article seeks to understand the impact of Jungian analysis on Rego’s paintings. Almeida Rodrigues contends this is particularly evident in her search for images emergent from the collective unconscious. The author concludes that Rego’s pictures re-create the cosmology of her interior life where she also found the healing power of the images she created. Rego was an inspiration to uncover the author’s own interior life through her work.
