Abstract
Objective: Evaluate the relationship between the measurements of the cerebral ventricular atrium, cavum septum pellucidum and fetal cisterna magna in overweight and obese pregnant women who attended the Perinatology Unit of the University Hospital of Caracas. Methods: This study was descriptive, observational, cross-sectional. The non-probabilistic sample was represented by all pregnant women who attended the ultrasound evaluation between 18 and 34 weeks of gestation with a body mass index greater than 25 kg/m2, in the period JanuaryAugust 2023. Measurements of the ventricular atrium, cavum of the septum pellucidum and the cisterna magna were recorded. They were subsequently classified into percentiles according to gestational age, considering minimal brain change in those brain segments located between the 75th and 90th percentiles. The results obtained were represented in tables for their respective analysis. Results: The predominant body mass index categories were overweight and grade I obesity. A statistically significant correlation was found between the atrium measurements and the body mass index. Conclusion: Brain change was demonstrated in all the segments studied when relating them to maternal obesity; changes were statistically significant in measurements of the fetal ventricular atrium. These results may have important implications in the identification of risk factors in overweight or obese pregnant women
