Abstract

Biochar-Based Composite Hydrogels for Enhanced Biocatalysis In their Research Article (DOI: 10.1002/adma.202517616), Jun Li and co-workers report the synthesis of a polyacrylamide hydrogel wherein biomass-derived biochar is co-encapsulated with the enzyme horseradish peroxidase (HRP). The resulting composite hydrogels possess balanced electron-rich and electron-deficient domains, creating an optimal microenvironment that concentrates both hydrogen peroxide and phenol molecules near the HRP, leading to dramatically enhanced biocatalytic oxidation efficiency.
