Abstract

The text seeks to highlight some relationships between architectural preservation and contemporary artistic production. These relationships can be observed in many layers, starting with the theoretical production, the methodological approach and, finally, the practical action of intervention itself. In addition to the introduction that presents the article, the text is structured in three parts: the first is dedicated to the relationships between Cesare Brandi, author of Theory of Restoration, the contemporary art and the Brazilian scenario; the second seeks to present conceptual bases for the discussion, demonstrating how Brandi has been a reference author for the conservation of contemporary art since the emergence of the topic until more recently; and the third presents some cases, in Brazil and abroad. In conclusion, a well-founded and detailed reading of the theories and a critical approach to the objects lead us to the already known idea of a unity of method, taking into account the specificities of the practical procedures required by each object in preservation works.
