Abstract
We present the case of a 47-year-old female patient who underwent surgical treatment for massive splenomegaly, characterized by the absence of abdominal symptoms despite the significant size of the spleen (35×25×15 cm). Massive splenomegaly, often associated with various etiologies such as infections, hematologic or hepatic disorders, is diagnosed when the spleen exceeds 15 cm or weighs more than 1 kg. In this case, the diagnostic evaluation included physical examination, ultrasound, and computed tomography (CT), which confirmed the absence of active hematological pathologies. Despite the administration of supplements such as folic acid and iron, the patient showed no clinical improvement, leading to the decision to proceed with surgical intervention. The splenectomy, despite inherent risks such as intraoperative bleeding and splenic vein thrombosis, was successfully performed without significant postoperative complications.
