Eosinophils are rare or absent in subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus: A systematic review.

Eosinophils are said to be rare or absent in subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE), one of several disorders for which the “no eosinophils” rule in dermatopathology may be applied.1,2 Eosinophils have not proven to be a distinguishing feature of drug-induced SCLE (DI-SCLE).3 In addition, DI-SCLE, and idiopathic SCLE have been found to have similar clinical, histopathologic, and serological findings with minimal differences.4 Because a definitive assessment of the literature on the status of lesional eosinophils in SCLE has not been reported, we sought to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis.
