Abstract
The region comprising the Jaguaquara Sheet, in Bahia, Topographic Sheet SD.24-V-D-V, presents predominantly rocks from the Jequié Block. These rocks are deformed in the granulite facies, resulting from the collisional event that occurred in the Paleoproterozoic. Mapping of this Sheet took place between 2006 and 2009, when no aerogeophysical data existed in the area. This survey would be conducted in the following years, between 2010 and 2011. Some research was carried out in the following years (2012, 2014, and 2019), which included semi-detailed and detailed field studies, petrography, lithogeochemistry, and geochronology. This research aims to present an update and geological-geophysical integration of the lithostratigraphic units of the Jaguaquara Sheet, a region that in recent years has shown great potential for the exploration of rare earth elements (REE). Based on this integration it was possible to delimit or update the contacts of nine lithostratigraphic units: Sedimentary covers (CS), Heterogeneous granulites (GH), Granulites of monzogranitic composition (GM1), Granulites of monzogranitic composition (GM2), Granulites of monzogranitic to tonalitic composition (GMT1), Granulites of monzogranitic to tonalitic composition (GMT2), Orthogneisses (OI), Gabbros-anorthosites (GA) and Granulites of tonalitic to trondhjemitic composition (GT), in addition to compiling petrographic and outcrop data and standardizing the nomenclatures used by previous authors. Aerogeophysics proved to be indispensable to complement and support the surface geological mapping, allowing for the clearer delimitation of the contacts between the lithostratigraphic units and the main geotectonic units that occur in the study area, in addition to proposing two new units called Granulites of monzogranitic composition (GM1 and GM2).
