Abstract

Mordenite (mordenite) was synthesized for the first time via a template-free, hydroxyl radical (·OH)-assisted transformation of magadiite. The effects of synthesis parameters on transformation were systematically investigated, and the product was thoroughly characterized. Pure mordenite was obtained under optimized conditions with a gel composition of 24SiO 2 : Al 2 O 3 : 6NaOH: 70 H 2 O: 0.17Na 2 S 2 O 8 . The synthesized mordenite possesses a Si/Al ratio of 5.13, exhibits an aggregated rod-like morphology, and features a microporous structure with a BET surface area of 301.28 m 2 /g and a micropore volume of 0.081 cm 3 /g. The study reveals that reaction temperature, alkalinity, SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 ratio, and the presence of ·OH are critical for achieving phase purity. This work represents the first successful integration of radical-assisted synthesis and magadiite conversion, offering a novel and green route for the preparation of mordenite zeolite. • First template-free mordenite synthesis from magadiite via hydroxyl radicals. • The relevant influencing factors have been systematically studied. • The basic properties of mordenite have also been studied in detail.
