Abstract

The paper presents a study on morphological variations in Hungarian proper names, with particular focus on variants that elicit reflection among speakers. The investigation is based on data gathered through the Language Consulting Service (LCS) of ELTE Research Centre for Linguistics, as well as supplementary sources such as online forums, language diaries, and other user-generated content. The authors present key findings on the types of proper names involved and the nature of the morphological issues most frequently encountered by speakers. Specific cases are discussed to illustrate typical variation patterns and the principles guiding the responses provided by the language consulting service.
