Critical vector spaces and extremal $L$-varieties

An example of an almost commutative, almost Engel and almost finitely based $L$-variety generated by a multiplicative vector space distinct from its enveloping algebra is presented. Also, an example of a critical multiplicative vector space that does not form a linear algebra is constructed. Bibliography: 21 titles.
