Females of the Genus Agapetus Curtis (Trichoptera: Glossosomatidae) of Eastern and Central North America

Females of 28 species of the genus Agapetus Curtis known from eastern and central North America are illustrated and described and a key to species is provided. The relevance of a ventromedian process on abdominal segment VI as a possible diagnostic character is discussed. The relationship of abdominal segments VIII and IX are interpreted and the area of abdominal segment IX within abdominal segment VIII is referred to as the inner cylinder. Tubercles on abdominal segment VIII, along with their shape and the presence and distribution of spicules on the integument, can provide diagnostic characters. Agapetus ruiteri Parker, Etnier, and Baxter, 2010 (in Etnier et al., 2010) is recognized as a new synonym of Agapetus minutus Sibley, 1926.
