Abstract
ABSTRACT The genus Kymocta (Trombidiformes: Trombiculidae) comprises mites that are intranasal larval parasites of rodents and marsupials. This study provides a comprehensive taxonomic revision of this genus based on the examination of type and non-type specimens of all previously described species. Two synonymies are proposed: Kymocta lutui Goff, Whitaker and Dietz is synonymized with K. brasiliensis (Fonseca), and K. chironectes Yunker and Brennan with K. teratarsalis Yunker and Brennan. Furthermore, two new species, Kymocta gabriellae Bassini-Silva & Jacinavicius, sp. n. and Kymocta rosariae Bassini-Silva & Jacinavicius, sp. n. are described from material collected in the Morro Grande Forest Reserve, São Paulo, Brazil, expanding the known diversity of the genus.
