Abstract
The most important ATLAS upgrade for LHC run-3 has been in the Muon Spectrometer, where the replacement of the two forward inner stations with the New Small Wheels (NSW) introduced two novel detector technologies: the small-strip Thin Gap Chambers (sTGC) and the resistive strips Micromegas (MM). These detectors have been chosen and designed to cope with the high background levels of LHC run-3, and the even higher levels of the future High Luminosity LHC run. The NSW detectors are actively contributing to the muon spectrometer trigger and tracking, after the initial commissioning phase during the first months of run-3 in 2022. In this report a comprehensive summary of the studies on the NSW system is provided, based on the LHC Run-3 dataset collected from 2024 to 2025. It will address the performance of the two novel detector technologies, as well as the muon trigger and reconstruction performance in the ATLAS endcaps.
