Impacto de las políticas migratorias trumpistas en la frontera sur de Chiapas

This article analyzes the territorial and social reconfiguration of the southern border of Chiapas, Mexico, focusing on the phenomenon of the externalization of migration control from 2018 to 2025. The migration policies implemented to contain and manage the massive flow of people in transit, as well as their economic, social and human effects in the region of Soconusco and the city of Tapachula, are examined. Using a longitudinal qualitative approach and desk analysis, the study identifies three key phases: active containment, forced waiting, and controlled emptying. In addition, impacts such as militarization, the humanitarian crisis and the emergence of an informal economy dependent on the stranded migrant population are evident. The article provides a critical perspective on migration governance, highlighting the interaction between external policies and local territories in the contemporary geopolitical framework.
