Abstract
The Latin American and Caribbean region is experiencing a unique moment in terms of the dynamics of international migration and the challenges of managing it. On the one hand, the significant increase in migration between countries in the region has blurred the traditional distinction between countries of origin, destination, and transit. On the other hand, these new flows are rapidly changing direction; they are becoming massive; they include a wide variety of origins and destinations; and they are characterized by a mixed profile, encompassing political reasons, economic needs, and displacements linked to climate events. We are facing a decade of rapid change, which serves as the starting point for Selee, Lacarte, Ruiz Soto, and Chávez González to reflect on the policy responses, challenges, and obstacles that the region's governments face in implementing unprecedented strategies.
