Am­mi­a­nus Marcellinus and the crisis following the Bat­tle of Adria­no­ple. The Battle of Adrianople (378 AD) was a turning point not only from a historical point of view, but also from a literary one. Among the authors who witness the crisis following this crucial moment in Roman history, Ammianus Marcellinus is the one who expresses a position that is not im­me­diately clear, unlike authors such as Themistius or Synesius of Cyrene.
