Abstract

This article aims to perform a detailed literature review concerning the fatigue behaviour of adhesive-bonded joints (ABJs) with similar or dissimilar materials. ABJs are being progressively used in different sectors such as automotive, aerospace, and energy. This work has thoroughly gone through the literature on the ABJ's fatigue performance. One aspect is the joint's fatigue life under different factors, such as loading parameters, geometrical, and environmental conditions. Besides, the investigation of the joint failure features and the adhesive bonded under the cycle loading is illustrated in this paper. This article presents an examination of the methods used to predict fatigue life based on the S-N curve. A deep understanding of the fatigue behaviour of composite ABJs was achieved through a survey of research articles and experimental works related to different joint configurations. The review outcomes exhibited that introducing nanoparticles and hybrid nanoparticles could be a very efficacious method to raise the fatigue strength of ABJs, thereby making the joint life longer and adopting advanced fatigue life prediction methods at the same time. This study serves as a source of information for designers and researchers working on projects involving ABJs and need to comprehend the factors affecting the fatigue life. Moreover, they receive guidance in selecting the right endurance techniques, aside from being provided with data analysis tools and computational methods for fatigue life prediction.
