Abstract

Landslides are a major geological hazard in the Western Ghats mountain range, South India posing significant risks to local infrastructure and human activity. This study aims to assesse the susceptibility of landslides using remote sensing and geographical information system (GIS) techniques. The information value model was applied to evaluate the landslide susceptibility, resulting in a classification of the area into five categories. The Ghat roads and buildings distribution indicates that both the faults and human construction activities are the primary factors contributing to the frequent occurrence of landslides in the study region. The information value model can effectively evaluate the susceptibility to landslides in the study area.
