Rödel is the editor in chief of Mamma - lian Biology. For a century, Mammalian Biology has served as a key forum for mammal scientists worldwide. As the official journal of the German Society for Mammalian Biology ( h t t p s : / / w w w . m a m m a l i a n - b i o l o g y . d e /), we proudly celebrate 100 years of service to the scientific community. The Society, founded in Berlin in 1926, was built on a vision of openness and inclu- sivity, welcoming systematists and ecologists, anatomists and physiologists, zoo biologists and field naturalists alike (Hutterer 2001). The journal’s first volume appeared in the same year. Apart from an interruption (1943-1952) during and after the Second World War, our journal has been pub- lished continuously, documenting developments in our field from its early descriptive roots to the quantitative and often integrative methodological approaches of today. Originally carrying the German name Zeitschrift für Säugetierkunde , in 2001 we embraced our international identity by adopting the English journal title Mammalian Biology. Research on mammals continues to attract widespread and significant attention, and our journal remains dedicated to covering a broad range of topics and novel methodologi- cal approaches while still following the founders’ vision of serving “all branches of mammalogy” (Hutterer 2001). We, the members of the editorial board, are committed to assisting authors in advancing the diversity of research on mammals. The recent rise in our journal’s impact factor may contribute to further strengthening Mammalian Biology ’s position as one of the leading journals in the discipline. Central to any journal’s work are the authors who entrust us with their research. I am deeply grateful to all those who have submitted their work to Mammalian Biology over the many decades since the journal’s foundation.
