Scientific Literacy to Support Sound Decision-making When Incorporating Scientific Findings into Dance Practice

Scientific research related to dance is increasing. This study aims to promote scientific literacy among dance students by providing knowledge about how scientific knowledge is accumulated, so that students can make appropriate decisions regarding their dance practice. To achieve this, we illustrate: (1) the provisional nature of scientific knowledge, (2) the reliability of scientific findings, and (3) the scope and limitations of a study. We hope that this article will help dance students make appropriate decisions without overlooking the possibility of the adverse effects caused by indiscriminately incorporating scientific findings into one’s practice.
