Abstract

Objective: This study compared the brain waves of individuals with narcissistic and antisocial personality disorders using machine learning methods.Materials and Methods: In this comparative cross-sectional study, the brain waves of 60 participants (30 with narcissistic personality disorder and 30 with antisocial personality disorder) were recorded using an electroencephalography (EEG) mapping device and analysed with machine learning algorithms.Results: The results showed distinct patterns of brain electrical activity between the two groups. In individuals with antisocial personality disorder, the delta wave power was significantly higher in the frontal, central, parietal, and occipital regions compared with the narcissistic group (p<0.001). Additionally, theta and beta wave power differed between the two groups in certain brain areas (p<0.001 or p<0.05).Conclusion: These findings reveal distinctive brain wave activity patterns in individuals with narcissistic and antisocial personality disorders, which may contribute to a better understanding of the neurobiology of these disorders and hold potential for developing EEG-based diagnostic tools.
