Actual aspects of providing dental care to participants of special military operations

In all regions of the country, the issues of targeted support for veterans and participants in special military operations and their comprehensive dental rehabilitation are being addressed, which necessitates a detailed analysis of the characteristics of this category of patients. Goal. The purpose of the study was to determine the indicators of need for dental treatment, including dental prosthetics, for participants and veterans of the Special Military Operation, in order to conduct long-term planning and organize high-quality dental care. Materials and methods. The study analyzed statistical reports reflecting the volume of dental care provided to participants of the Special Military Operation in Moscow in 2025, and conducted a screening examination of participants of the Special Military Operation who were undergoing inpatient treatment at the Russian University of Medicine to determine their need for various types of dental care. Results. A study of the volume of dental care provided in Moscow revealed the demand for therapeutic dental care, which was provided to 69% of the patients. Surgical treatment was necessary in 55% of cases, and dental prosthetics were required in 15%. These results significantly differ from the need for dental treatment among patients in a federal medical organization. In this group of patients, 92% of the patients required therapeutic treatment, 41% required tooth extraction, 33% required dental prosthetics, and 19% required replacement of inadequate orthopedic structures. An important feature of these patients was the higher prevalence of periodontal diseases, secondary dental arch deformities, symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction, and changes in the functioning of the salivary glands.
