Aprendiendo de The Florida project (Sean Baker, 2017)

The article links the film The Florida Project (Sean Baker, 2017) to the postmodern theories of philosopher Jean Baudrillard and architect Robert Venturi. By intertwining the concepts of the simulacrum in the former and the general notion of the symbolic quality of architecture beyond its functionality, developed by Venturi in his famous Learning from Las Vegas, a critical reading of Baker's work as a paradigm of an “architecture of the seduction” is proposed. This architecture will operate as an accomplice, it is what is condemned in the film, in what we understand to be the incipient process of occupation of former public spaces by a series of hyperreal doubles in the form of buildings that replace the once real with its seductive double.
