On the question of Permian-Alan language contacts: some new lexical materials The article discusses some new materials concerning the linguistic and cultural contacts of the ancient Alans (the ancestors of the Ossetians) with the Permians (the ancestors of the modern Udmurts and Komi). The main attention is paid to the Permian-Alan interaction, reflected in the vocabulary of the Permian and Ossetian languages. The discussion introduces the results of new etymological research as well as touches upon some previously published etymologies, with important additions and comments.
