Abstract
Do people who support someone who is grieving recognize themselves as caregivers? A study explored the role that individuals assign themselves when supporting someone close to them who is grieving. Our data show that they do not systematically consider themselves to be caregivers, but associate themselves with this role by describing it as complex and essential. Understanding the reality of grief can be a way to positively influence the recognition of caregiving. Here we present the results of research on this topic, drawing heavily on the comments of respondents.
