Nature Relatedness Scale: a contribution to Spanish validation, exploring psychometric properties in the Spanish cultural context / Escala de relación con la naturaleza: una contribución a la validación española, explorando las propiedades psicométricas en el contexto cultural español

Nature Relatedness encompasses the affective, cognitive and experiential dimensions of individuals’ connection with nature, reflecting an understanding of our interdependence with all living things. This study aimed to validate the Spanish version of the Nature Relatedness Scale (NRS), focusing on its adaptation to the Spanish cultural context and assessing its validity and reliability. The study also explored the relationships between the NRS, pro-environmental orientation and mindfulness. A sample of 514 Spanish adults (76.6% female, mean age 22.2 years) completed the NRS, the New Ecological Paradigm Scale (NEP) and the Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted to assess the suitability of the scale, and correlation analyses examined associations between variables. The NRS showed good internal consistency (α = .82, ω = .83) and an acceptable model fit. Significant positive correlations were found between NRS and NEP (r = .330, p < .001) and between NRS and MAAS (r = .171, p < .001). These results support the use of the NRS to investigate human–nature connections in Spanish adults, indicating its reliability for further psychological and environmental research.
