Scientific Publications by Russian University Students: Resource Factors and Their Effects

The article examines the problem of identifying student scientific publications in terms of their resource potential and the experience of forming personal cases of students in Russian universities. The emphasis is on the aspect of achieving specific individual results through publications, but the results obtained are correlated not with science, but with options for obtaining benefits (increased academic scholarships, grants, etc.). Based on an empirical study conducted in 2022-2025 (14 focus groups in total) students’ utilitarian ideas about scientific publications are revealed, their judgments about the role of scientific publications in professional development are evaluated, and key value orientations that arise within the framework of resource availability and are mainly instrumental in nature are touched upon. It is shown that ethical issues related to scientific publications are perceived by students as secondary, not fundamental in scientific activity. In general, it is concluded that the identity of students has changed: the traditional principles of academic culture are gradually giving way to rational and utilitarian attitudes among students. This affects the formation of their market interests, realized through scientific publications.
