Del terrorismo masculino al horrorismo femenino en “Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego”, de Mariana Enríquez

The present article explains Mariana Enríquez’s narrative proposal in which her short story “Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego” [“The Things We Lost in the Fire,” in English] modernizes terror and horror from a dimension according to Latin America’s reality, specifically in relation to feminicide violence, manifested in the body of female characters who are set on fire by their husbands. The actions of the story describe terrorism as a form of male violence whose aim is to achieve moral and physical domination of women; on the other hand, horrorism is denoted as a response of resistance from women. Both forms of textual representation are decoded considering literary and historical archetypes that show the current relevance of the relationship of oppression and rebellion. This accounts for the presence of the Gorgon and the witch, feminine types that have come across centuries and regions to display a disruptive reaction against violence.
