Abstract

During an ongoing survey of lignicolous freshwater fungi in Guangxi Province, China, an interesting hyphomycete is discovered and introduced. Based on morphological comparison and multi‐locus phylogenetic analyses of combined internal transcribed spacer, partial large subunit nuclear rDNA, and partial translation elongation factor 1‐alpha ( tef1‐α ) sequence data, Aquapteridospora guangxiensis sp. nov. is identified. The new species is characterized by macronematous, simple conidiophores, polyblastic conidiogenous cells with sympodial proliferations, and obovoid, pale brown, mostly 2‐septate conidia, without a sheath. A detailed description, illustration, an updated phylogenetic tree, and a key to the genus are provided.
