Resumen

This special section explores the vital and multifaceted relationship between education and social sustainability. It examines the far-reaching role that education plays in addressing the urgent challenges of our time – ranging from gender equality and intercultural engagement to social cohesion and participatory citizenship. The social relevance of education has long been recognised in global policy discourse. For instance, the United Nations (2015) Sustainable Development Agenda identifies ‘inclusive and equitable quality education’ not only as a standalone goal (SDG 4)
