Abstract

Using the example of two agro-landscapes of the forest-steppe and steppe biomes’, approaches to cartographic provision of environmental protection programs focused on conservation of biological, ecosystem and landscape biodiversity were developed. At the stage of field research, a set of comprehensive descriptions of natural ecosystems’ preserved fragments with floral and faunal records were carried out; then an assessment of the biodiversity of the protected areas in the region was made. The typology of natural ecosystems and the characteristics of the biological and landscape diversity of each type are given. At the stage of mapping sheets of three scale levels were developed through GIS technologies, reflecting the presence, location and relationship of all the natural ecosystems. It is advisable to start environmental monitoring at the local level, which displays the preserved areas of floodplain and valley ecosystems, island forests and other small-scale natural objects. These maps are complemented by those of the regional level, which analyzes the studied and neighboring territories similar in natural conditions, agricultural specialization, anthropogenic load and the presence of nature protection facilities. An ecological network maps are created at the basic level, which show potentially valuable natural ecosystems and landscapes, differentiate their different types and reflect the connecting ecosystems.
