Abstract

In recent years, mass spectrometry has become an emerging method in the diagnostic and prognostic field of multiple myeloma (MM) due to its high sensitivity in detecting and quantifying monoclonal immunoglobulin (Ig). The aim of this review is to schematically describe how works, its ability to provide additional information, such as the glycosylation of monoclonal light chains, and its versatility (peripheral blood) for possible use in detecting measurable residual disease in MM.
