Abstract
Neutrophils extracellular traps (NETs), released by neutrophils, play a core role in the occurrence and development of atherosclerosis (AS) lesions, which components damage endothelium, destabilize plaques by inducing vascular smooth muscle cell death, and exacerbate inflammation and thrombosis via interactions with phagocytes, platelets, and T cells. By blocking the production pathway of NETs and degrading the components of NETs are all feasible methods that could be explored to reduce AS. Here, we reviewed the NETs' role in AS and their therapeutic potential, offering clinical translation insights.
