Electrical burns with small bowel evisceration

An electrical burn that causes small bowel evisceration is a rare and serious complication resulting from high-voltage electrical shock. It occurs when current passes through the body, causing both thermal and electrical damage to tissues, including the abdominal wall and intestines. We report a case of a 43-year-old male who sustained severe electrical burns, resulting in a destructive injury of the left upper limb and a blowout wound to the right lower abdomen with small bowel evisceration. The patient underwent a left glenohumeral disarticulation, laparotomy, and debridement of the abdominal wall. The illegal practice of izinyoka , frequently observed in electrical burn cases, is uniquely associated with South Africa and is closely linked to underlying socioeconomic conditions. Addressing this issue requires comprehensive socioeconomic structural reforms.
