Abstract
The specialized structure of the eye together with its various biological defense mechanisms and its fast drug elimination process makes ocular drug delivery exceptionally difficult to achieve. The combination of these factors leads to inadequate drug absorption by the body which results in difficulties for patients to follow their treatment plans. The research study evaluates the performance of 3D printing polymers which scientists use to create ocular drug delivery systems because the material demonstrates its ability to deliver medication to specific areas for an extended period of time. The authors analyze both natural and synthetic polymers which include polycaprolactone, polylactic acid, poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid), and polyvinyl alcohol and chitosan and alginate and collagen and hyaluronic acid. The selection of these polymers depends on their physical and chemical characteristics together with their ability to interact with living organisms and their capacity to decompose and their effectiveness in delivering drugs through regulated methods. The research study establishes the importance of different 3D printing techniques which include fused deposition modeling and stereolithography and inkjet printing and bioprinting. The technologies provide users with detailed control to create specific device shapes while selecting how much medicine to use and designing customized treatments for eye conditions. The research paper examines existing challenges which include problems with printability and difficulties in choosing materials and obstacles that hinder clinical implementation. The combination of 3D printing technologies together with suitable polymer materials enables researchers to create novel systems which enhance ocular drug delivery methods. The systems deliver ongoing therapeutic benefits while decreasing the need for medication and preventing patient treatment difficulties. The research study demonstrates an effective solution for upcoming developments in research about drug delivery methods used in eye medicine.
