Zinc deficiency Presenting as Acrodermatitis Enteropathica in Infancy: Diagnostic Challenge and Clinical clue?

Acrodermatitis enteropathica (AE) is a rare zinc deficiency–related dermatosis in children, often resembling other dermatologic disorders and posing a diagnostic challenge. Due to its rarity and non-specific presentation, AE is frequently underrecognized at initial evaluation, leading to suboptimal treatment responses and potentially serious complications. We report a successfully treated case of AE, emphasizing that zinc deficiency should be considered in infants with persistent dermatitis unresponsive to standard treatments, in order to improve outcomes and reduce misdiagnosis.
